Review Ratings and What They Mean

I love Avon products and I want you to love them too. It is very important to get the right product that works for you, which is sometimes harder than it looks. Purchasing the right product the first time is a very important step in loving a product. First impressions only happen once!

While I rate a lot of products on this blog, keep in mind that these reviews are coming from my experience, and are based on my personal preferences, as well as what I perceive the majority of women’s preferences to be. These preferences may not be your preferences. If you are not sure about a rating, please feel free to try it for yourself. Avon has a 100% satisfaction guarantee backed by an excellent return policy. Whether you order the product from me, my website, or another representative, you can return the product for a full refund or an exchange.

To help you understand the rating system, there are descriptions of each feature that I rate. These are guidelines that help both me and you understand what is expected. If you have any questions or suggestions about these ratings, please let me know.

Coverage

The coverage rating is based on how well the product covers. This applies specifically to how makeup covers the applicable area, or how skin care products cover and go on. basically, if the product covers well, it will get a higher rating than one that does not. The table below will explain each star rating in more detail.

1Stars One Star: Coverage is insufficient, or product does not go on smooth.
2Stars Two Stars: Coverage is okay, but not great. Product does not go on well.
3Stars Three Stars: Coverage or product application is average.
4Stars Four Stars: Coverage or product application is better than average.
5Stars Five Stars: Coverage is excellent. Product goes on very smooth.

Weight

The weight rating is how it feels. For makeup, it is based on how the makeup feels while being worn throughout the day. For other products, it is based on how it feels while in use and/or if it noticeably weights you down throughout the day after use. For example, if a hair product makes your hair feel heavy all day after use, then it will receive a low weight rating. Check out the table below for more details.

1Stars One Star: Product feels heavy during and after application.
2Stars Two Stars: Product feels heavy or slightly heavy during, or after application.
3Stars Three Stars: You can tell the product is still there, but it is not excessive.
4Stars Four Stars: Product is very light, but you can still tell it is there.
5Stars Five Stars: Product is so light it’s like it is not there.

Durability

The durability rating is based on how long the product lasts. For makeup, the best ratings will be for make-up that lasts all day. For other products, it will depend on what it is as to what amount of time the durability will be based on. Below are some guidelines for each of the star ratings available for this category.

1Stars One Star: Product hardly lasts after applying it, or there is no significant change after application (i.e. skin care)
2Stars Two Stars: Product lasts for a little while, but not nearly long as it should. There is little change after using it.
3Stars Three Stars: Product lasts for as long as it says, or as long as most similar products. The change is expected.
4Stars Four Stars: Product last for as long or long than expected. There is noticeable change after application.
5Stars Five Stars: Product last much longer than expected, or there is a significant change after application.

Benefits

This rating is basically asking ‘What extra benefits does it have?’ If there are extra benefits other than the obvious, then the benefit rating will go up. If the product doesn’t have any extra benefits, then it will be based on if it does what it is suppose to. For more explanation, please refer to the table below.

1Stars One Star: Product has no benefits and does not do what it is suppose to.
2Stars Two Stars: Product has very few benefits, or does not really do what it is suppose to.
3Stars Three Stars: Product has the types of benefits expected from this type of product, and does what it is suppose to.
4Stars Four Stars: Product has a lot of benefits and does exactly what it is suppose to if not a bit more.
5Stars Five Stars: Product is has a lot of benefit and excels at what it is suppose to do.

Price

This rating is the simplest one of them all. The lower the price in respect to the quality of the product, the higher the rating. Of course then the opposite is also true in that if a product is priced very high, then it will receive a lower score. The idea of high or low pricing will be based on the general price for any similar product on the market right now. Check out the table below if you want to see the set of guidelines for each star rating.

1Stars One Star: Product is more expensive than most similar products.
2Stars Two Stars: Product is slightly more expensive than most similar products.
3Stars Three Stars: Product is of average price.
4Stars Four Stars: Product is less expensive than most similar products.
5Stars Five Stars: Product is very inexpensive and is a great value.

Overall

This is, of course, the overall rating and will usually coincide with the 5 ratings listed above. If you need further explanation, check out the guidelines in the table below.

1Stars One Star: Product is very poor overall.
2Stars Two Stars: Product is below average overall.
3Stars Three Stars: Product is average overall.
4Stars Four Stars: Product is above average overall.
5Stars Five Stars: Product is excellent.

Glimmersticks Eye Liner review

For starters, the Glimmersticks Eye Liner are Avon’s #1 eye liner, and have been awarded Best Eye Liner in the 2010 Allure Reader’s Choice Awards. I originally started using glimmersticks_eyelinerGlimmersticks when I started working with Avon. I switched because I was tired of how a normal pencil just didn’t seem to mark my skin without some pressure. My eyes are a bit sensitive, so the pressure wasn’t something I enjoyed much. I decided to try the retractable Glimmerstick in Blackest Black.

Really, I have no trouble with this eye liner from the start. It slides on with little effort, and makes it easy to get a nice thin line, or make it thicker if you want without much pressure at all.

Avon’s Glimmerstick Eye Liner also glides on very smooth, and it is so light-weight, I barely notice it is there at all. The great thing about this eye liner is that it lasts all day.

The good thing about the Glimmerstick is that it lasts all day, even when my eyes watered. I decided not to get the waterproof Glimmersticks, which seems to be fine for what I need.

Price is very important to me as a consumer. While this isn’t the most expensive eye liner out there, it is a bit expensive for my taste. The waterproof Glimmersticks, and the other variations, are the same price though. The great thing about popular Avon products like this is that they will often go on sale.

How to Use

Apply the Glimmerstick Eye Liner after you have put your eye shadow on. Some things to remember:

  • Apply as close to the lash line as possible.
  • Typical application should be across the entire top lid, and only half way across the bottom lid.
  • You can make the line bold and defined, or soft and smudgy.

To extend the Glimmerstick, twist the pencil.
